You need to know that only one pet is allowed if you are in the first-class cabin, but if you are in the main cabin of flight, then you can travel with a total of five pets. In this case, passengers are permitted to carry along up to two pets and the second pet can travel under the seat adjacent to the one purchased.

For soft-sided carriers, the maximum allowed size is 17in*11in*9.5in.

For hard-sided pet carriers, the maximum allowed size is 17in*11in*7.5in.

If two pets belong to the same species and size, then both of them are allowed to travel together in the same cage or carrier as there is enough space for two pets to stand and move around the cage while traveling with Alaska Airlines. The total weight of two pets should not be more than 200 pounds, i.e., 9Kg.

Alaska Airlines Service/Emotional Support for Cats and Dogs

According to Alaska Airlines, services and emotional supports to pets are offered in the cabin. Still, to avail of this service by Alaska airlines, passengers need to notify the reservation department first.

Per Passenger, only one emotional service is provided to their pet and the pet should be either a cat or dog. During the emotional/service, the pet must be leashed properly and they will remain Alaska Airlines compliant pet cage/carrier.

According to Alaska Airlines Pet Policy, passengers need to be available with all required documents 48 hours before the scheduled departure if they intend to travel along with their pets and while providing them service/emotional. According to Alaska Airlines Pet Cargo Policy, if your pet cannot fit within your seat and if your pet is neither a dog nor a cat, and if the flight is long hauled, you are advised to book cargo space for your pets. This needs to be done as your pet is not meeting the specified standards and requirements of the pet in-cabin travel policy.

According to Alaska Airlines, Small domestic pets like dogs, cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, tropical fish, pot-bellied pigs, non-poisonous reptiles, household birds, etc. They are permitted inside the cargo section if they have permission. But there is a requirement that all pets need to fulfill, which is they must be weaned and at least the age of eight weeks.

The allowed combination of both the pet and the carrier must be a maximum of 150 pounds which is 68 kgs. When it comes to SkyWest Flights, the limit is decreased to 100 pounds which is 45 kgs.

In Airbus Aircraft served flights, no pets are permitted to travel in the cargo section of the flight. Due to the Holidays traveling during November 21 – December 31 and December 10 – January 3, Alaska Airlines do not accept pets in the Cargo of flights 2000-2999 and the flights 3300-3499.

Restricted Routes

According to Alaska Airlines Pet Policy, no pets are permitted to travel to/from Mexico as it is one of the restricted routes for pets. From November 1 to March 31, pets are restricted in the flights of Hawaii. Alaska Airlines also participates in the holiday embargoes for the Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays.

Temperature Restrictions

If the forecasted or the actual temperature of the climate is 85°F (29.4°C) or below 45°F (7.2°C), then one cannot make a reservation to travel with their pets in Alaska Airlines. There are a few exceptional pets that can be permitted at a temperature below 45°F (7.2°C) only with a certification of acclimation.

According to Alaska Airlines Pet Policy, No snub-nosed or brachycephalic dogs and cats are permitted in the cargo section of the flight or flight. According to Alaska Airlines Pet Policy, passengers can reserve cargo space of flight to travel with their pets. But they will have to make the reservation in advance to avoid any issues. It is advised to make the reservation for pets on flights 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure of the flight.

Alaska Airlines pet carrier size/dimensions requirement

To travel in Alaska Airlines, the pet must be over the age of six months to fit in a single age carrier and the pet must be a cat or dog. Two pets can be permitted to travel in the same cage if the pet is of six months old and weighs 20 pounds, i.e., 9kgs each. To travel in the same cage, the species, sex and size of the pet must be the same.

The cage or carriage must be prepared with proper metal locks at both ends to maintain the best safety for your pets.

The dimensions of the carrier/cage must not exceed more than 53in L * 48in W * 34in H. The dimensions of the carrier/cage for the Horizon Air must be equal to or below 40in L * 27in W * 30in H.
